Our CEO, John Lovoy, bought out Infomedia, which was, you guessed it — an internet company. The problem was we had to make people realize that the internet was going to be a thing. Katie Couric: Allison, can you explain what “internet” is? John owned several businesses before he bought Infomedia. A beauty supply chain. Dr. John’s record store. And a retail computer store. There you go, little fella. (Shouting) Some were more successful than others. John’s experience in the business world gave us a leg up — we understood small businesses and knew how to help them. Our major service was data archiving and data transfer.
Sexy stuff. But then, we hooked a major client completely by accident: the Regis in the UK. They thought we were in Birmingham, England! But then when they found out we were in Alabama, it really didn’t matter to them. They loved us and kept working with us, which led us to partnerships with other major clients like United Airlines. That’s when we realized one key thing that would shape our company permanently: Websites are dynamic. Websites need to evolve in order to be successful, So, we started supporting them and adding content to websites. And it worked! And now we’re living the dream. We went from cataloging for registries in the 90s to supporting over 700 clients in a wide range of industries.
