Healthcare and Medicines | Google Advertiser Policies

[Music] Hi, my name is Josh and I'm part of Google's policy education
efforts. My role is to help you better understand
our advertising policies, and also share the challenges you face
with our internal teams. In this video I'll explain and provide
some examples of the Healthcare and Medicines Policy, which is part of our Restricted Content
ads policies. If you want to learn more about the Restricted Content ads policies, check the video linked in the description
below. Please also make sure to review the full Healthcare and Medicines Policy in the Help Center article linked below.

[Music] Online advertising can be a powerful way
to reach customers, but in sensitive areas we also work hard to avoid showing these ads when and where they might be
inappropriate. We expect that advertisers follow
appropriate laws, industry standards, and Google's policies around healthcare and medicines. Some healthcare related content can't be
advertised at all, while other content can only be advertised if the advertiser is certified with Google and targets only approved countries. If you're interested in learning more
about healthcare and medicine certification, check out the link below in the
description. We allow different kinds of healthcare
related promotions depending on the region
being targeted. Be sure to check the list of
country specific restrictions for every country where you plan
to advertise, using the link in the description. The first category is related to online pharmacies and prescription drugs. We monitor both sale and branding
related promotions, and require advertisers go through a
certification process to be allowed to advertise this type of
content on Google. Examples include pharmaceutical
manufacturers, promoting the drugs they make, and online pharmacies promoting the online sale of prescription drugs.

We also restrict certain prescription drug brand names and active ingredients in
most countries. Regardless of whether you're promoting the sale of these drugs, we monitor your ad text, landing pages, keywords, and web page source code for
these terms. Only certain advertisers in a select
number of countries can use these terms in their promotions. For more information on this and to
see the full list of monitored prescription drugs, check the
link below. Additionally, we monitor certain products and active ingredients as unapproved
substances, irrespective of any claims of their local
legal status.

These products may have for example, been identified as having harmful
ingredients, or been associated with government
warnings. Lastly, some healthcare related services
are also restricted. Ads for these services will only show in
certain countries, and to protect consumers from harm, we require advertisers who promote
these services to be certified in some cases. Examples include abortion, birth control, addiction services, health insurance, clinical trial recruitment, and speculative and experimental medical
treatment, cell therapies and gene therapies. Keep in mind that not all advertisers are
eligible for certification. And all country specific requirements need to be met to obtain a certificate. For more on certification requirements
per country, check the link in the description. And remember these are just some
examples of how the Healthcare and Medicines
Policy works. So be sure to review the entire
policy article linked below, to be fully compliant.

[Music] Google ads enables businesses of
all sizes from around the world to promote a wide variety of products, services, apps,
and sites on Google and across our network. We want to help you reach existing and potential customers and audiences. When serving ads on Google, you're required to adhere to
its policies. Many content areas are highly regulated to
protect consumers and Google plays a role to ensure users connect with trustworthy parties. As an advertiser you can check for a
policy violation in the policy manager of your Google
Ads account. For more information on how to navigate
the policy manager or appeal a decision, check out the video
linked below. As a user if you encounter a potential
policy violation and would like to bring it to our
attention please report it using the form also linked in the description below. I hope this video helps you better
understand our Healthcare and Medicines Policy. Keep watching this playlist to learn more about our other advertising policies. And don't forget to subscribe to our channel for upcoming videos.

Thanks for watching. [Music].
