Losing weight using non-surgical methods can be a long drawn process and it is easy to get discouraged midway, and hence, liposuction being quick and effective has become so popular.

Liposuction is the surgical extraction of surplus fat out of the body, but this procedure is not without side effects and the patient may have to stay off his feet for many weeks after the surgery. However, the new method of liposuction by laser technology, laser liposuction is a better alternative both in terms of safety and convenience.

As the name suggests laser liposuction utilizes laser technology to melt the fat before removing it. It uses a narrow fibre tube, which is heated through a laser to liquefy the excess fat. The surgeon later removes the molten fat form the body, leaving the rest of the fat to be biologically absorbed by the lymph glands.

Scars, loss of blood and pain that are a common feature with normal liposuction are absent in this procedure, which makes it a good fat loss treatment alternative. Body tissues are not hurt in any way as the lasers are used with anaesthesia and a saline solution.

Another advantage is that laser liposuction tightens the skin, which gives an additional benefit to those with loose skin, such as post-pregnancy women. The best thing about laser liposuction is that the person undergoing treatment can get back to his routine activities within a few days, whereas in the older form of liposuction he or she may have to remain indoors for weeks to fully recuperate.

However, laser liposuction is not a completely advantageous procedure. As minute slits in the body are made, this procedure fails to remove fat from places of excess fat deposits like thighs, and instead works on limited areas like face, arms etc. Another thing is that this technique, being relatively recent, is under a cloud of suspicion as surgeons don t know as yet if it can cause any side effects or not. Moreover, the treatment is quite costly and not affordable to a lot many people.
