Here are some keys to starting and maintaining a strong fitness training business. These are tried and true tips that will help you keep the clients you have, and pull in the clients that you want.

First of all, you need to start at square one with understanding your client base. You need to know who your ideal client is. Where they live, how much they make, what they watch, read, and listen to. If you know your client, then you know how to market to attract MORE clients. Also, you’ll be marketing to the clients that you WANT. Clients that are likely to stick around and really be great clients for you. If you’re not targeting these clients in your marketing then you’ll end up with a lot of flaky clients and a high turnover rate.

Once you know who you want to be your client you need to learn the best way to market to those clients. You’ve already covered a lot of ground just narrowing down who you are marketing to, but you need to know how to tailor your advertising so that you’re not wasting a single minute of the short attention span most people viewing your ads will have. There are tons of marketing websites offering free information on how to market your business and some great paid sites that will help you learn the best way to grab a potential client’s attention and get them to act. And really, if you have to spend a little bit to learn this stuff, it will be worth it in the long run when you have an awesome client base and are pulling people in.

You need to have clear and specific goals. If you don’t know where you want to go with your business, you’ll just kind of drift. I doubt you’re just looking to pay the bills month to month, you probably want to be successful, maybe there is something specific you want, like a new car, a better house, more time with your family. If you have something specific that you can write down it will be a huge motivator for you to push forward and achieve that goal. Cut out pictures and post them on your wall to get you going when you get down, get a white board and write quotes or income goals–just do something!

But most importantly, don’t spend all your time focused on your goals to the point where all you do is think about yourself. You need to spend some time focused on helping out other people too. If you aren’t focused on your clients needs and are just thinking about yourself your clients will see that and will not stick around. You need to absolutely have a passion for helping your clients achieve their goals too.
